Doing something different with real estate video.

“There is nothing new under the sun.” You’ve probably heard that bible quote hundreds of times in your life, and for good reason: it’s true. Yes, there are new ideas, new technologies, etc but it’s always an evolution of a different idea that has come before. What about creativity? The newest blockbuster or novel is using storytelling techniques that reach back to antiquity retelling versions of stories that have been around forever.

So… how can you make a real estate development video that is different? By telling the stories of the people involved because truly unique people are the compelling characters that will help shape the tone and structure of any video.

Acoya Merewether

This project is a great example. Going into this we knew what the goal of this video would be: to help potential buyers purchase off-the-plan for this new development. We started the process of building this video by interviewing Josh Mana and Peter Aloupis from Green Street Property in Newcastle in addition to the architect of Acoya, Brendon Porter.

Like the storytelling equivalent of archaeologists, we dug though the content to find what about this project, and these people was unique and from there we based every other creative decision on that; everything from the structure, music choice, and grading of the b-roll was inspired by the people and how they told the story of Acoya.

As a fun bit of trivia, the videographer who filmed these interviews had originally intended to shoot each person standing with Newcastle streetscapes out of focus behind them. However, when he met the six-foot-11-inches architect… he quickly revised this plan.

Anyway, please enjoy and feel free to leave a comment!
